Union is Important

The concept of Union is important in yoga asana practice and lifestyle because 'the personal is always political'.

The word "union" is important outside of the spiritual sense of inner
connectivity, so it is comforting to witness the reclaiming of positive
and empowering activist language in counter culture - helping connect
us to the roots of our modern and contemporary capacity to Unionize in
all forms and senses.

Notes on the self-reflection exhibition, by Winston Lau

Yoga student and photographer Winston Lau comments:
"The Union Yoga Center celebrates its 1-year anniversary with a group exhibition entitled The First Union. Large-scale quilts, earthenware plates and sculptures, and delicate hand painted silk scarves, all explore the theme of Self-Reflection.

Pre + Post Natal Nia: What is it?

New to Nia, Miriam introduces a Pre + Post Natal Nia space where movement can be an active part of the wave of physical, neuro-biological, hormonal-chemical, psychological and relational changes taking place during your pre and post birthing months.

Why Do Nia? by Miriam Schacter

For myself, Miriam Schacter, movement provides an intentionally enlivened space for shared emotional and embodied expression.

Dance, martial arts, and yoga combined with breath training assists in the maintenance of memory, alertness, judgment, adaptability and emotional/neurological feedback systems throughout a lifetime.

It supports the healthy expression of creativity and sexuality second to its emphasis on self-reflection, witnessing and sensual expression.

Self-Reflection for The Union's 1st Anniversary

  • is the union doing what it set out to do?
  • is there a sense of community growing?
  • is there empowerment and healing?
  • is there information and sharing?

Help us brew up some answers: The Union will be taking the month of January 2008 to celebrate one whole year of fruition by going back inside for some Self-Reflection... sound good?
